A painting has the unique power to take moments and immortalize them on canvas. The historic mystery hidden behind the decay of an old building, the vivid colors of a flowering field laid fallow—the beauty of the mundane goes unnoticed by the rush of daily life or unappreciated by socially accepted apathy. Pulley uses oils to create a rich and lively color palette that he then mixes directly on the substrate, bringing a rawness and grit of that reality to the composition. A technique that invites viewers to see the juxtaposition of beauty in an overgrown field or the delicate handsomeness of an inner-city skyline with fresh eyes.

Much of his juxtaposed inspiration comes from viewing the world through two opposing lenses that, when combined, provide him with a sharpened vision of reality.  The lenses show an idyllic childhood where the world is in its perfect form or conversely his time spent on active duty, and adulthood for that matter, where reality can be the antithesis of idyllic. When these lens overlap they provide that focused reality with profound sights that beckon us to slow down and embrace the stillness. For its in these moments we must acknowledge the grandeur of our insignificance and yield to something far bigger than ourselves.
